The ikat print is one of the big fashion trends for the upcoming spring and summer months in 2022. Before we go into more detail about this, we'll first explain how this print is created. Ikat is known for the way of dyeing yarns, which creates the possibility to paint motifs on textiles. Parts of the yarns are in fact bound together or covered with a water-repellent fabric, so that the color cannot adhere to those places. After the yarns are dry from the dye bath and the liquid-repellent material is removed, the strands of yarns are tied together in other places and dipped again in a dye bath with a different color. Thus, in this way, different ways of motifs are possible.
The trend is inspired and originated in South America and Southeast Asia. In the past, weaving technique was used for cloths and carpets. Nowadays you see the print also back in the fashion industry, so the weaving technique is now also used in tops, blouses and dresses.
