Fall/Winter '22 - Layering 101

Fall/Winter '22 - Layering 101

With the weather getting colder and colder, it is important that you start dressing nice and warm. In this blog post, we give you the best tips for layering. Layering is one of the many fashion trends of the F/W season 2022. Layering is all about knowing how to incorporate layers into an outfit in a fun and unique way.

The first layer

Let's start with the basics, this is the foundation on which you will build your outfit. This first layer mainly provides extra warmth and it is important that this layer is not too thick yet. After all, there will be extra layers on top and you want to maintain your mobility. Therefore, for this first layer, choose a long-sleeved shirt, turtleneck, mockneck or blouse with classic collar that fit the body.

The second layer

The second layer doesn't really have any rules, this is where you can really unleash your creativity. Often, though, this second layer is a bit thicker than the first or the fit is roomier. Common second layers are jumpers, cardigans, spencers and sometimes blouses. Jumpers and cardigans are usually combined with a turtleneck, mockneck or blouse. Spencers are often worn with long-sleeved shirts and mocknecks. Under a blouse, it is best to wear a turtleneck.

The third layer

A third layer is optional, but very nice if you want to go the extra mile with your outfit. The third layer usually consists of a kind of jacket or cardigan. This third layer usually falls oversized, which is handy because the first two layers take up quite a bit of space. Choose a nice waistcoat, blazer or tweed jacket. Usually, such a third layer is worn in combination with jumpers, spencers and blouses.

The outer layer

A real winter outfit cannot go without a nice warm winter coat. The outer layer of a layered outfit therefore consists of a nice (winter) coat. Make sure the winter coat has enough space at the sleeves and armpits so it doesn't feel cramped with all those layers underneath.
