Spring/Summer '23 - Prints inspired by African and Middle Eastern culture

Prints come in many shapes and sizes, from ikat prints to the breton stripe. Our spring/summer collection is all about complementary worlds. On the one hand, the collection emphasises cultural designs inspired by African and Middle Eastern cultures, while on the other, the emphasis is on Western cultures. This also reflects in the use of prints.

Prints inspired by African and Middle Eastern cultures

A number of prints used in the collection owe their origins to these cultures, such as ikat prints and ethnic prints. Other prints take on a cultural influence through the use of colour. Colours you often see in prints from African and Middle Eastern cultures are terra, tabacco, sand, ecru, off-white, coral and sunny yellow.

Graphic ethnic print

With a graphic ethnic print, geometric shapes are brought together in a print. This print can mainly be found in dresses, tops & blouses. Style your top with jeans or trousers that match one of the colours in the print to create a nice casual look.

Ikat prints

Originally from India, the ikat print was not just a print then but a weaving and dyeing technique. Yarns were dyed in a pattern prior to weaving, then the yarns were woven and it was important that the print translated through into the end result. So an Ikat print does not have a set pattern, but you can recognise it by the flow of the dye in the print. Our summer collection features the ikat print in supple dresses and airy blouses.

Floral prints

A floral print is a classic print that we see coming back every year. Floral prints come in many different shapes, such as small, large or all-over. Style a floral print with plain-coloured trousers, skirts or jeans. A dress with an allover floral print can be worn both casual and dressy. Style the dress with a pair of trainers and a denim jacket for a casual sporty look. Wear the dress with a pair of nice heels to create a nice elegant look.

Nature prints

With a nature print an element of nature is incorporated in the print, think of leaf prints, animal prints, the waves of the sea etc. You can easily style a nature print with your favourite jeans or a nice pair of trousers in earth tones.

Mix & Match

Sometimes several prints are combined in one item. For example, the ikat can be combined with a graphic ethnic print or a nature print with a graphic print. As the mix and match is a real eye catcher, it is important to keep the rest of your outfit calm and neutral.
