Romcom-core, you may have already heard this term passed by this year. In fact, it is one of this year's bigger fashion trends. In this article, we explain what exactly romcom-core is, how to style romcom-core and give some examples of iconic outfits from the most famous Dutch romantic comedies.

What is romcom-core?

Romcom-core is the replacement for barbie-core, that is, it is the latest fashion trend inspired by pop culture. Romcom-core recreates outfits and takes style inspiration from well-known romantic comedies. With this trend, you bring a piece of movie magic into your own life.
Often focusing on films from the 1990s and 2000s, this trend involves a bit of nostalgia. Consequently, the clothing styles that often recur within this trend are 90s style and 2000s (Y2K) style.

How do you style romcom-core?

Romcom-core doesn't really have any set rules, as it depends on the film and the character you want to recreate. The most important thing is that you let the essence of the character be reflected in your outfit.
 
Still, there are some trends that come back more often within this style, as many of the popular romcoms are from the 90s, 2000s and 2010s. Here the most common trends that you can implement yourself or keep in mind when creating your look:
- Low-rise jeans, crop tops, a-line dresses and short skirts, Pastel colours and pink (2000s origin).
- Baggy jeans, checked blouses, chest-print t-shirts and oversized jackets, Black, white and grey hues (1990s origin).
- Skinny jeans, t-shirts with text, Lots of allover prints and mixing & matching prints (origin 2010s).
