Beautiful clothes with respect for people and the environment
We believe that making beautiful clothes goes hand in hand with respect for people and the environment. That is why we strive to make our clothing as sustainable as possible and to do so under the right working conditions. We are actively working to reduce the impact on the environment and to increase our positive contribution to a clean and healthy environment.
Our manufacturers are an important part of Geisha. We have great confidence in our manufacturers and have therefore been working with them for many years. We have a clear position when it comes to working conditions at our suppliers. Geisha works with suppliers who have been positively assessed by BSCI (Business Social Compliance Initiative). We do not tolerate forced labour or child labour, and all employees are entitled to a safe and healthy working environment. We visit our manufacturers regularly to ensure that our principles are followed. In addition, we believe that, through involvement and cooperation with our manufacturers, we can bring about gradual, positive and far-reaching changes in the working environment. We work with partners who share our respect for people and the environment and who are willing to work with us to improve their working methods.
Sustainable production process
We strive to make our clothes in a responsible and sustainable way. This means that we are gradually using more and more sustainable materials such as cotton from the Better Cotton Initiative (BCI) and sustainable viscose Lenzing™ and Ecovero™. During the production process, ozone technology is used, a washing method that wastes less water. Recycled padding is made of high-quality certified fibres from recycled materials, including post-consumer plastic PET bottles.
We want all our clothing to be produced and worn safely. We do everything we can to keep abreast of new developments related to the use of sustainable materials and their production. This means that we want to ensure that chemicals used in the production of our products are safe for people and the environment. That is why we go one step further than the European REACH and POP legislation. This legislation contains a list of prohibited chemicals and defines which chemicals may be used or imported into the European Union within prescribed limits or not at all.
Geisha goes beyond the legal requirements, and we have drawn up a Restricted Substances List (RSL) with additional requirements for our clothing. We test all our substances and use a comprehensive list of prohibited chemicals that may not be used during the production process. We share this list with our manufacturers and take samples to test whether the clothing meets our standards.
Sustainable products can be recognized by our ‘ECO AWARE’ label. Geisha is striving to offer all its products 'ECO AWARE’ by 2030.
Better Cotton is produced by farmers who are affiliated with BCI. They grow cotton in a way that is measurably better for the environment and local communities. The use of harmful pesticides is minimized, and water is used efficiently. For more information about Better Cotton and BCI, visit www.bettercotton.org
Ecovero is a good sustainable alternative to traditional viscose. It is made from certified renewable wood sources with the help of an ecologically responsible production process by meeting high environmental standards. The fibres are certified with the EU Ecolabel because they meet high environmental standards throughout their lifecycle: from extraction of raw materials to production, distribution and disposal. We have developed a denim using sustainable washing technology. The process eliminates the use of pumice and the harmful chemicals involved in traditional washing, while still achieving beautiful results and contrast by decolourization with just one cup of water.
